The Green River Shiatsu Treatment

Zen Shiatsu is traditionally performed on a futon postioned on the ground rather than high on a table. This placement is not merely an aesthetic reflection of Japanese culture, but plays an important function, for both the patient and practioner, in maintaining healing contact with the Earth during the treatment.

Wearing loose and comfortable clothes, the patient receives shiatsu without the use of oil that is typical of some styles of bodywork.  Treatment is given through palm, finger, thumb, knee and elbow pressure along a matrix of energy (ki) meridians to assist the patients body in correcting the movement of ki. The depth of pressure is always directed by the patient therefore a healing shiatsu treatment never needs to be a painful experience.

In fact, the state of deep relaxation attained while 'on the futon' is an essential part of every shiatsu treament. A few minutes of quiet rest at the end allows time for integration of the treatment, before returning to life outside.
